Envision Your Life and Then Go Backwards
Your Monday morning happiness prompt
Good morning, lovely people!
It’s my first day back in the office after two weeks off, and honestly? It’s feeling a bit much. You know that slightly wobbly sensation when your to-do list is as long as your arm, and your brain hasn’t quite caught up with the calendar? That’s me today. What day is it even?!
Before my break, I was all over my 2024 plans. Reviewed, revised, I knew what I was leaving behind me in 2024 and knew what I wanted more of in 2025 - I was ready to roll. But 2025? That’s still sitting there, unplanned and waiting for me to give it some attention this week. And without that plan, I’m feeling a little discombobulated. That’s where this week’s inspiration comes in: “Envision your life and then go backwards.”
I think I heard Bruno Mars say it (my guilt pleasure - don’t judge me!). And it’s sticking with me because it’s the perfect guide for this very moment in my life. This week, I’m not just making a plan; I’m envisioning a whole life—my life at the end of 2025. So yes, this week’s Happiness Prompt is just as much for me as it is for you.
Dream Big, Feel Big
It’s so tempting to start with the “routine stuff”. All the things the productivity gurus tell us to plan: What do I want to achieve? How much money do I want to earn? What clients do I want to work with? What do I want to have? And yes, these are all important questions, and I’ll definitely be answering them.
But there’s something else I’m prioritising: how I want to feel.
Think about it. When we dream of a holiday, we’re not just thinking about the destination or the activities, are we? We’re imagining the feeling—that sense of relaxation, excitement, adventure, or peace. So why don’t we plan our lives that way too? If I want to feel joyful, balanced, or abundant at the end of 2025, then I need to design a life that delivers those feelings.
Manifesting the Good Stuff
Manifesting isn’t just about wishful thinking; it’s about creating a vision so compelling, so vividly felt, that it practically pulls you toward it. The trick is to really immerse yourself in the emotions linked to your vision. Close your eyes for a moment and picture your dream life. Not just the “what,” but the “how.”
What does your day-to-day look like?
What are you wearing?
Where are you working, or not working?
Who are you spending time with?
Most importantly, how do you feel?
Feel that pride in your accomplishments. Bask in the freedom that financial security brings. Let the joy of meaningful work and loving relationships fill you up. When you let yourself experience those emotions now, you’re aligning yourself with the energy of what you want to attract.
And, of course, manifestation isn’t magic. There are 12 Universal Laws and we need them ALL if we want to manifest successfully. We need, amongst other stuff, to take inspired action towards what it is we’re attracting to us. And the best way to do this - be super clear on that vision and work backwards…
Working Backwards
Once you’ve envisioned your life at the end of 2025, it’s time to reverse-engineer it. Ask yourself:
What needs to happen by December 2025 for me to feel this way?
What steps do I need to take by next summer?
What does the first quarter of this year need to look like to set me on that path?
Chunk it down into bite-sized actions, and suddenly, the overwhelming vision becomes a manageable roadmap. This approach gives me so much clarity—and I know it can do the same for you.
