Forget superstition. Forget the Hollywood horror movies. Friday the 13th wasn’t always something to fear.
In fact, it was once a celebration of feminine power.
In ancient traditions, Friday was sacred to the goddess - think Freya, Venus, Aphrodite - the protectors of love, beauty, fertility, sex, and strength.
And the number 13 is the number of the sacred feminine, deeply rooted in goddess worship and the rhythms of nature. It's the number of lunar cycles in a year. The number of menstrual cycles a woman typically experiences annually. And it's associated with transformation, rebirth, and the ending of one cycle to make way for a new beginning.
So when Friday and the 13th collide? It’s a potent day to honour you. Your body, your intuition, your softness, your rage, your wisdom, your wildness.
It’s a day for ceremony, stillness, or simply lighting a candle and whispering to the part of you that’s been silenced.
So today, especially, I invite you to say - as loudly or softly as you like -
“I honour the woman I am.
I honour the woman who came before me.
I honour the woman who I am becoming.”
Repeat it as you get dressed. Say it as you stir your tea. Breathe it in during a pause between meetings. Whisper it before you sleep.
You are not too much.
You are not cursed.
You are sacred.
Happy Friday the 13th, wild one. May you reclaim the magic that was always yours.
