🧡 Your Monday Morning Happiness Prompt
Embracing Radical Self-Love, Grace, and Rest
Good morning, beautiful souls! 😊
Whether you’re reading this from the comfort of your bed, on your way to work, or snuggled up with a warm cup of tea, I’m so glad you’re here. Today, let’s talk about three gentle, but powerful allies in navigating the ups and downs of life with chronic illness, fatigue, or hormonal imbalance: radical self-love, grace, and rest. These three go hand in hand to support and sustain us, especially when we’re feeling our most fragile. So, take a deep breath, settle in, and let’s explore how we can lean into these beautiful practices.
1. Radical Self-Love: Celebrating Every Part of Yourself 💖
Radical self-love is about treating yourself as you would a dear friend – with kindness, patience, and a big dose of understanding. Unlike a quick self-care routine, radical self-love runs deep. It’s about embracing every part of you, even on days when you feel less-than-sparkly or “behind.”
When living with a chronic condition or fatigue, radical self-love means listening to what your body needs and honouring it without judgment. Maybe it’s allowing yourself to rest without feeling guilty, or letting go of the need to “keep up.” This isn’t about forcing positivity – it’s about accepting yourself fully, just as you are, with all the beauty and resilience you bring to each day.
Ways to Practise Radical Self-Love:
Setting Boundaries with Kindness: Allow yourself to decline invitations or commitments that might leave you drained. Self-love is knowing your energy is precious.
Speaking up for yourself: Having the courage to ask for what you need and to speak up for yourself.
Forgiving Yourself Often: When things don’t go as planned or you need a bit more time to rest, remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can. This isn’t failure; it’s being human.
Think of radical self-love as a kind, steady voice that reassures you it’s okay to go at your own pace. It’s knowing that you are enough, right now, as you are.
2. Practising Grace: Embracing Compassion in Difficult Moments 🌸
Grace is the gentle art of being kind to ourselves, especially on days when things feel tougher than usual. Chronic conditions can bring unexpected challenges, and practising grace means not beating ourselves up for the things we can’t control. Some days, grace looks like whispering to ourselves, “It’s okay, I’m still trying,” and letting that be enough.
What Grace Looks Like in Everyday Life:
Letting Go of Guilt: Maybe you’ve had to reschedule plans or missed out on something you wanted to do. Grace is about releasing any guilt around that – your well-being always comes first.
Speaking Gently to Yourself: Instead of, “I should be able to do more,” try saying, “I’m proud of myself for showing up in the ways that I can.”
Allowing Rest Without Regret: Grace lets us rest without judgement, reminding us that rest is not laziness – it’s a gift to our future self.
Grace is a beautiful way to nurture self-compassion. When we allow ourselves grace, we’re learning to trust that we’re enough, no matter what the day holds.
3. Rest: The Essential Ingredient for Healing 🌙
Ah, rest – the most underrated, powerful gift we can give ourselves! Chronic fatigue, illness, or hormonal imbalance can leave us feeling constantly depleted, and proper rest is essential. It’s not just about sleep; it’s also about giving your mind and heart a break, too. Rest lets our bodies heal, our spirits recharge, and our minds find calm.
Simple Ways to Honour Rest:
Listening to Your Body’s Cues: Sometimes rest looks like a nap, but sometimes it’s a walk in nature, a cup of tea, or sitting quietly with a good book. Your body will tell you what it needs.
Creating Restful Rituals: Gentle breathing exercises, a warm bath, or even a short meditation can work wonders. These small pockets of peace can make a big difference.
Building Your Rest Haven: Make your space feel comforting and cozy. Soft blankets, soothing scents, and perhaps a favourite playlist can help you settle into restful moments more easily.
Rest isn’t just for the end of a busy day; it’s for any time you feel you need it. When we treat rest as a priority, it becomes a beautiful foundation for wellness, helping us to recharge so we can face whatever the day brings. (Check out last week’s podcast for more on this!)
A Gentle Reminder for the Week Ahead: Your Word of the Week
This week, let your Word for the Week lean into radical self-love, grace, and rest. Let your word maybe encourage your daily practices that support our health, uplift our spirits, and remind us of our own resilience. Let it it remind you of these three gifts we can give ourselves, especially when things feel challenging. So, let’s celebrate every little win, speak gently to ourselves, and rest deeply whenever we need it. You are already doing so much, just by showing up – and that deserves all the love, grace, and rest you can give yourself. 💛
Have a beautiful week, and remember: you are enough, just as you are.
